Step 1 — Find the IMEI: Dial *#06# on the phone. The 15-digit IMEI appears on screen. iPhones also show it in Settings → General → About.
Step 2 — Open the CEIR portal: Go to ceir.gov.in/Device/CeirIMEIVerification on any browser.
Step 3 — Enter the IMEI: Paste the 15-digit IMEI into the verification field. Solve the captcha.
Step 4 — Read the status: A clean phone shows status 'Valid'. Stolen/blacklisted phones show 'Blocked' or 'Duplicate' — do NOT buy these.
Step 5 — Cross-check the box label: Compare the IMEI on screen with the IMEI printed on the device box. Mismatch means tampered hardware.
